Certainly not worth the price. He we go... You would expect that at a certain price point you'd get rid of the regular apartment issues you have at lower priced apartments but that is not the case. I lived him for an extended period of time and things have only gotten worse. There are a mix of renters and owners. Clearly the owners are not the problem. 1) In the recent year, there has been an influx of college students moving in. If you are a working professional forget about moving in here. They are typical in their habits - late nights of walking in drunk, slamming doors, smoking in front of the building, etc. 2) Cigarette Smoke is an issue in these buildings. Even though each unit has there own HVAC unit, somehow smoke/smell will get into your apartment through the furnance and make its way through your vents even if you aren't running the furnace. Seriously, when I walk into my apartment when I get how from work I'm hit will such a horrible smell of smoke you'd think three people were smoking in there. Oh yeah, then I have to go open my window - in the middle of winter - to get fresh air inside. And the same goes for when I wake up in the middle of the night with a stinging nose. 3) Dogs. I love dogs. I don't like hearing them bark. Yes, Vaughn Place is very dog friendly, but you'll pay for it in huge fees. If you don't have a dog, well then you'll be listening to a lot of barking. 4) They recently remodeled. But cut corners, like in the bathroom. Instead of putting in a new bath, they recoated it. It started flaking months after I moved in. Sloppy work. 5) Over the summer the pool was closed for over a week because of "permit issues". This is inexcusable. 6) At least once a week the water mysteriously shuts off at night. Always when you are about to take a shower or clean the dishes. Calls to front the desk claim that it's not there problem. It may be DC water, but they should take responsibility and fix this issue. 7) Several times last fall the outer front doors where locked at 6am in the morning. You couldn't get in or out! This was a huge fire hazard. I had to go out the side door in the basement. Not the thing you want to be doing if there was a fire and you were trapped. When I called the front desk the person on staff said, I'm paraphrasing "Well there is nothing that can be down until Mateinance arrives." Thats no excuse! Somebody should be called immediately to unlock these doors. Why where they locked anyways? 8) Pricing is all over the place. If you must rent here. Negotiate like hell with them. I know several people in Studios and there rents range from $1550-$1810 for basically the same apartment. 9) Safety: Many lights in the parking lot are out. 10) A recent remodel. But old windows equal poor insulation in the lower buildings. 11) Construction: Sidwell school is in the middle of construction. There is lots of truck traffic. Sometimes in the middle of the night when trucks from out of state sit and idle out on Wisconsin Ave. There idling will shake the building. I know this is a lot. Maybe some complaining. But I always go by "You get what you pay for." But this place is overpriced for its overriding issues. You can find cheaper not far from here. I'm already looking.
