The BAD I have been living at Northwood Gardens for almost 7 months. When I first moved in I thought what did I get myself into. I hated the windows. They where hard to open and close, drafty and were very rusty looking. At first I didn’t really feel very safe because we had no bars on our windows even thou some other people had them. People would leave mail or objects in the front door so anyone could walk in. I hated the old basement smell in my apartment. I don’t think they have ever got the heating ducks cleaned. It just always smelt like old dusty clothes or something. I had to plug in a few wallflowers to get rid of the smell. Parking is not good. If you get home after 5:30pm you might as well put on you walking shoes because you’re going to be hiking it to get to your apartment. Although I haven’t seen a mouse we have had an ant problem. One time a piece of potato fell on the floor by accident and after 20 mins ants were all over it. I was so grossed out. I had to put salt down and they went away but ever now and then you will see one wandering around looking for food. So far I have only seen 4 cockroaches since I have been there. OH I ALMOST FORGOT!! This is the worst part about living at Northwood. If you are a fan of charlotte's weband like spiders then you may not have a problem having a few extra roommate spiders. I don’t know what kind they are but they loved to live were the ceiling and wall meet. They didn’t make webs but they just like to be annoying. I don’t know if all the apartments were like this but it was like that for us. After getting bit on my foot 5 times I had to cock my windows up so they wouldn’t come in side thru the cracks. I think it was because we are right across the street from the woods may have caused that problem or being on the first floor. THE GOOD The price is great. I love not having to worry about my utilities and I love that I can control my heating. The floor plan is pretty big and it a great size for a first time apartment. The neighborhood is pretty ok and is right next to the metro. I haven’t had my car broken into or anything. Nobodies really hanging outside beside some little kids playing. When you need something fixed they at pretty fast. Although the apartment need to be updated overall if you can get use to a few things you won’t have a problem. If they updated the windows, kitchen cabinets and bathroom I would probably stay another year.
