Apartment Review for Fort Totten Station - Washington, DC

I've lived in DC for four years and after reading the previous reviews, I think a lot of the negativity is related to moving here while contruction was still going on. I've been here since July 2008 and have extended my lease for another 6 months until I move in Janaury 2010. What is true about this place is that the management staff is absolutely a nightmare to deal with. They are not helpful, and neither is maintenance. This is one of the reasons I am moving. My bathroom ceiling fell in while I was out of town (my neighbor upstairs never reported that her toilet overflowed) and it took maintenace THREE WEEKS to fix it properly. (The first time they fixed it, the ceiling fell in 2 days later.) Shotty construction? Yes. Another reason I am moving is because I feel as if this development is turning into Section 8 housing. As other reviews read, there are several mentally disabled (and unstable) residents occupying Terrace Level apartment homes. After seeing first-hand some of these residents in action and learning from one of the maintenance women that she was assulated by one, it's enough to make any single female a little nervous. As for noise, the only noise I ever hear is the car alarm going off at all hours of the night in the brick apartments behind my building (Building #2). For the most part, it seems I lucked out because my wing has been quite quiet since I moved in. The location is great (it's on 3 metro lines) and the pool is a bonus. This certainly hasn't been hell for me and it is a good transition apartment before I pack up and move back downtown.
