Elevation 314, one of the properties of Montgomery Oaks Mngmt Inc (www.momirents.com), is a new (2 year old) buiding that was created exclusively to address environmental issues. See their website for more info on that. The reason I moved here was: (1) the nice buiding manager let me move in despite a horrible credit history as long as I had a co-signer [I will be forever greateful]; (2) it's a brand new buildng so it's really nice; (3) my contact with managment was only positive; and (4) the building is DIRECTLY across the street from the Takoma Metro Stop (Red Line). I don't havea car, don't want one, I can go anywhere because I literally walk across the street to go home. They have this cool feature (which I can't use since I don't have cable) that allows you to see through the security camera who's ringing your bell (through a local cable channel). They had some growing pains and lessions learned from being a new building but overall I have been more than happy. Yes, the rent is big. I pay $1220 for a decent sized 1-bedroom plus balcony. But it's just me and the cats so that works. I know I'm paying for a new building and I'm paying for how close it is to the Metro. That makes it worth it to me. If you're interested in environmental stuff and sustainable growth and green living, this is the place to live. The other residents know more about that than me. There are monthy potlucks, bi-weekly knitting circles and periodic hiking trips. Much community atmostphere. The end result: I highly recommend the building (as well as the company, MOMI) but be prepared for high rent (although, to be fair, rent hasn't increased in the two years I've been here). But to me, it's worth it. Great neighborhood, so close to the Metro you don't need a car (and Flexcar and Zipcar are right around here).
